Tools needed:
- White Plastic Bowls (I have the most luck finding these at the Dollar Store)
- Splatter Screen (found in the kitchen section)
- Paper
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Hot Glue Gun
- Acrylic Paints
- Clear Acrylic Sealer
- Thin Sharpie
- Dremel (with small drill bit and a grind bit)
- Thread
- Needle
Basically I first make a template or test pattern with paper. Once you have a shape you are satisfied with, transfer this to the bowl and cut out with a pair of heavy project scissors.
Make sure to smooth out the rough edges with the Dremel and make the eyes as uniform as you can. Next I cut out squares of mesh from the splatter guards (make two sets for each eye; four squares total) and use the acrylic paint to paint these black. At the same time I paint the colored areas of the eyes. Do a few layers of paint.
Next I hot-glue two layers of the mesh for each eye to the back of the plastic base in order to minimize the ability of others to see your "inner spirit." Finally add reflection points with white paint, spray over with the acrylic sealer to protect the eyes from peeling and scratching,
Otherwise I typically use a Sharpie to create a boarder between the white and colored areas and drill small holes around the edges of the eyes with the Dremel in order to allow me to sew the eyes into the sockets. In turn I tack the eyes in place with hot glue after sewing.
